When Florida stops feeling flat.
At The Bluffs House, the land falls away from the street toward Red Beach Lake, revealing a rare condition in Central Florida: topography. Set along the Lake Wales Ridge, the site’s natural slope became the defining idea for the project. Rather than flattening the land or placing the house above it, the design moves with the terrain, stepping from arrival to retreat, from privacy to gathering, from street to water.
Conceived as a 2,800-square-foot lakefront weekend home, the house is organized as a place for multiple families to come together while still preserving moments of independence. The pie-shaped lot narrows at the street and opens toward the lake, allowing the architecture to unfold gradually. A detached carport and main entry occupy the middle level, creating a quiet arrival before the house opens downward toward the social spaces and the landscape beyond.
The split-level organization separates social and private areas while maintaining strong visual connections throughout the home. Living, dining, kitchen, terrace, pool, and lawn unfold toward the lake, creating a continuous relationship between architecture and landscape.
